Sugar-Free Lent: Day Forty

Sugar-Free Lent: Day Forty!

So it is forty days now that I haven't eaten sugar, well keeping in mind that I had a slice of pumpernickel with sugarbeet syrup in it, it is only thirty - nine, but I think that doesn't really count.

I noticed that I didn't need to eat so much anymore. And I definitely don't have so many snacks anymore. I bought some coconut chips on Saturday just in case I want something in between the meals and they have been sitting in my cupboard till this morning. So after breakfast while I was finishing reading the paper, I've got them out. And do you know what??

They are really sweet. They are not treated in anyway, I've checked the package again after I had the first one to see if I did make a mistake again but no, they are just coconut shavings, nothing else.

I didn't notice before that nuts can be so sweet. I had a pack of roasted hazelnuts the other day and I was amazed how sweet they tasted. I was almost wondering if that would be all right under my strict regime. Checking the nutritional values of the hazelnuts I noticed that it had 4,8% of sugar per 100 gram. The coconut shaving have even more. There are 6% of sugar per 100 gram. I think when I was still eating sugar I couldn't recognise how sweet the nuts actually where.
