Sugar-Free Lent: Day Forty-One

Sugar-Free Lent: Day Forty-One!

Yesterday I got an email from my friend in Austria. She stayed in Vienna for a few days and told me that she came across some samples of shower gel and shampoo with sugar cane in it in the hotel where they stayed.

I found that very interesting so the next thing I did was google it to see WHY they put sugar cane into things like shower gel and shampoo. Obviously the crystals themselves have an exfoliating effect on the skin but do I want this in my shampoo? I've used different exfoliating methods on the skin of my face from sea sand and almond bran to salt or sugar to coffee grounds and I must admit, the salt or sugar scrubs were the best and the most gentle. And it is so easy to do it your self. You just mix a bit of salt or sugar with a bit of olive oil, wetting your face and massage it in gentle circles. Then wash it off and ready is your face.

But why put it in shampoo? I really didn't find an answer. I guess it has something to do with hair growth and the fact that sugar has gentle cleansing properties. Do any of you know WHY?

The other thing: When we have tea my husband always takes sugar in his tea, I don't. His cup is a lot cleaner than mine and doesn't stain so easily. I have real difficulties to clean mine and often need to resort to bicarbonate of soda to clean mine properly. So maybe sugar has cleaning properties?

My delicious sugar scrub but you are not supposed to eat it.
