Sugar-Free Lent: Day Seventeen!

Sugar-Free Lent: Day Seventeen!

I just cannot stop thinking about sugar. And I read a lot more about sugar. The history of it is appalling. All the forced labour that was used to grow it and the land claimed to grow it was burned down rain forest. It is really sad. Even though this is not the case anymore, I'm glad I don't eat it anymore..... or at least not for Lent. I have to decide what is going to happen afterwards.

Well, I came across the information that sugar actually causes malnutrition. This is not for the calories it provides because they get stored as fat by the liver. As far as I understand the digestion and processing of sugar takes up so much of the available digestive enzymes that they cannot do a proper job in digesting protein. The digestion of sugar pulls away nutrients from the body which will leave a gap in the system. It doesn't give anything back apart from calories.

This is negative nutrition because the empty calories in white sugar have no nutritional value for the body.  They take nutrition out of the body but have nothing to give back. Even though the juice of the sugar cane and the sugar beet are quite nutritious and high in minerals, the refined white sugar is just sweet and empty. There is nothing in it.

Do I really want to eat something like that anyway????? And do YOU?
