Sugar Again

Sugar Again!!!

Just to give you an update on my sugar-freeness! Yes, I'm still off sugar but I started to eat fruit again, especially the fruit out of my garden and it is quite an experiment to try and cook, and particularly eat, rhubarb without sugar or any sweetener. Believe it or not, it is possible and it actually tastes very nice.

I'm still waiting for the bliss but I have only been sugar-free for 3 months now so it still might come. I hope that I will one day get to the point where I look back and cannot imagine that I ever want to eat cake or pudding again like it was/is when I quit smoking. That might come one day. What still makes me very angry is the amount of sugar you find in some, or rather all, of the cake recipes in those newspaper magazines at the weekend. There was a recipe of one cake which should have been baked in a 20 cm cake tin and it contained over 700 grams of sugar and on top of that 6 table spoons of raspberry jam which is mainly sugar as well. On top of that it also contained a tea spoon of SALT. What is that for in such a sweet cake? To counteract the sweetness? It is very bad for people who actually need guidance to bake a nice cake and what do they get? A load of sugar. I think this recipe was actually out of a book!
