Sugar-Free Lent: Happy Easter!
I hope I made you think about sugar. There is so much you can do for your health without cutting sugar out completely as I have done. Maybe you want to join the Facebook group: "Make Sugar Special Again" which I founded. That would be nice and it would be a good place to share recipes, knowledge and experience. Looking forward to see and hear from you there. Take care but keep a brief watch on my blog as there will be more health advice regularly.
Sugar has been on my agenda for a long time. When I was doing my training in childcare I was doing a project with children aged between 3 and 6 about sugar and I was amazed how addicted they were to the stuff.
And after I had done all the research about sugar on the Internet for the blog I found the assignment I did about sugar and sugar as a homoeopathic remedy when I was studying Homoeopathy. I wish I would have found it earlier because it would have saved me to do all the research again, but such is life.
Thank you to you all for reading my blog and commenting and giving advice. It was very much appreciated. A special thanks to my husband who wants to say a few words as well:
"It has been
an interesting 46 days and I have to congratulate Giovanna for sticking to her
intention to avoid sugar for Lent.
One thing
that soon became abundantly clear is how addictive sugar (and sweeteners) can
be. There were times when I noticed mood
swings, sometimes acknowledged and sometimes not, which also demonstrated how
difficult it was to effectively go “cold turkey”. I must admit to having to
bite my tongue at times when things got a bit twitchy.
The
intention to avoid sugar was far easier stated than implemented. The stuff is
in almost everything that we consume, sometimes for reasons that are, to say the
least, obscure. I haven’t altered my habits…..yet, but I have become far more
aware of what is in the food I eat and question the need for sugar and/or
sweeteners in many products."

I have enjoyed reading your blog. It became quite addictive! Whenever I make a cake, usually for someone else, I am increasingly aware that the recipes contain a huge amount of sugar. I usually reduce it by 25% and it doesn't seem to make any difference to the final product. Well done both for getting through it!
ReplyDeleteThank you for reading it. I found that quite a lot of cake recipes contain a lot of sugar and it made me aware that this adds up as one piece of cake was not enough for me most of the time.
