Sugar-Free Lent: Day Twenty-Eight

Sugar-Free Lent: Day Twenty-Eight!

I have to tell you a little story. My life seems to be a bit complicated at the moment.

At the weekend we had to do a little, well quite a big bit of food shopping. In the morning I didn't have any breakfast because I felt a bit sick when I woke up and thought that we can always have an early lunch or a late breakfast in Town while we were doing the shopping.

And shopping as you might remember, is a bit exhausting at the moment as well. We have the shopping list with things on it we need and there are always thing that jump at me from the aisles and shelves but instead of just putting them in the trolley I HAVE TO READ THE LABELS first to make sure that there is no added sugar in the product. It is easy with peppers, broccoli and carrots but all the other stuff is hard work. So this was quite exhausting.

So soon my nausea subsided and I became VERY hungry.

"No problem", I thought, " we will go to that nice cafe where they do all that nice food and I'm quite sure they will have a sugar free something for me to eat.

Well, there was a problem because the cafe was shut. So we had to think about where else in town we could have something sugar-free to eat for me. We do have a lot of cafes in town but we had to think quite hard. There was only one other cafe which came to mind and off we went.

But, oh dear, when I went up to the counter to make enquiries about if and what they have to offer which is completely sugar free the answer was: "Tea and Coffee!"

Not the answer I wanted. But I do understand that the restaurant trade has to think so much about what they serve their customers with people being gluten, dairy and wheat-free, vegan or vegetarian that it is almost impossible to get anything sugar-free.

I stayed hungry till we finished the shopping and got home. That was at 2 pm. Taught me a lesson to have breakfast the next time before I go out!
